UNIT LAYOUT and ROOF ACCESS

WATER SHUTOFF
When you have scheduled plumbing work to be done at your unit that requires water to be shut off, please consider these items…

  • Water can be shut off to your unit and the unit above or below you using the valve shut off in the courtyard area – remember that you will need to notify your upstairs or downstairs neighbor of the times you intend to have the water turned off.
  • Most of the valve shutoffs are are labeled with a brass tag that specifies which two units it works for.
  • Occasionally due to infrequent use, these shutoffs become stiff or inoperable and may need to be repaired/replaced.  What we don’t want is to find this out at the time when your plumber is there to do the work so if you are anticipating a water shut off while you have a dishwasher replaced or a new hose put on your washer or a kitchen faucet replaced – please make sure the shut off valve is operable before the work begins.
  • In the cases where the valve is not working – you will need to notify the management company a minimum of 48 hours in advance so that we can get a vendor out to replace it.  In most cases it is just the handle and that is easy to repair/replace.  In other cases it may be more involved and require a community water shut off scheduled with the City in order to replace the ball valve. The more notice you can give the management company the better.
  • Please also keep in the mind that when you turn water off to your unit and the upstairs/downstairs unit, that you are turning off water to two units and draining the pipes of two units – this process can take about 20 minutes for all the water to stop running completely so be patient.
